Re-sizing multiple images on Linux

Every time when I have some task which is quite laboriousness and requires a lot of manual intervention, I think of some sort of automation. I think that because what I have understood during all my digital experience, that I am not the first one to be hit by these kind of boulders all along. At the same time, I am also not the only one who thinks that way when they are challenged with things like these. And finally, a lot of those people are way more smarter than I am for solving these problems. And what's even more better is, they share their learning and experiences. I just love the open source family... :k Right, back to this post. Recently, my sister got married and as expected, a lot of pics were captured. I had specifically bought Nikon L810 for it, and god, what images does it capture. But, you can't upload those high -resolution images for sharing with your friends. That's about 10G of images and in countries like mine, that size is a pretty high volume. So...

Custom order for SQL Query results using Order By

One thing that I surely believe is "Necessities drive Innovation". But, one has to think different at crucial times to be innovative. Well, that's not a subject of discussion for this. But it does originate from that idea. Just before our monthly release and when everything is all prepared, we found a bug in the code. GOD, how many times we test, where do they make their way. Anyways, we needed something which required no code changes as the code is already delivered. We only had database with us to play. Basically our problem was, we needed the first record from the set of two records based on a values in VARCHAR field. That means, we needed to apply some ordering to the records based on the values. But, ORDER BY only supports Alphabetic ordering on the values. But, that's what we generally know. Because we wanted to order the records in the manner we specify, we had to look for some solution. And we did find an interesting stuff at Jmatrix.net that allows us to s...

Aggregating Multiple Row values into One column

This is pretty interesting and useful. Sometimes, we might need to aggregate multiple row values into one single column. Oracle 9i provides xmlagg() function to achieve this. Here is the employee table example which aggregates the multiple employee names into one column based on the department no. select deptno, rtrim (xmlagg (xmlelement (e, ename ',')).extract ('//text()'), ',') enames from emp group by deptno ; DEPTNO ENAMES ---------- ---------------------------------------- 10 CLARK,MILLER,KING 20 SMITH,FORD,ADAMS,SCOTT,JONES 30 ALLEN,JAMES,TURNER,BLAKE,MARTIN,WARD Magic isn't it. Forms for Differently Abled

Image
Hi people. Its been a long time since I have posted anything on this blog. We had this idea that we will be sharing our ideas and experiences. Actually this post should have come earlier if I would have known how to show HTML code nicely in the posts. But this time, things are better. So here it is... It all started during the SDRC-UG introduction session with the BBA-IT freshers of our college, SICSR . This time we had decided to put the recruitment process online where the students have to register themselves online. Naturally they have to fill the form (<form>). One of the students came to me and asked various things and told me that he is one of those differently-abled people. Just then I realized whether the forms that we had been designing since beginning can be accessible by such people. When Google-d it out, I came to know that all those forms are not for such people. Crap...:-( I am sure all those in the same field could feel the same way. So much work done over the year...
